Samsung Wave II

From Legacy Portable Computing Wiki
Samsung Wave II in Ebony Gray, front

The Samsung Wave II (model GT-S8530) is flagship Bada OS smartphone announced on October 4, 2010[1] and released on November 30 in the same year.

This is the successor to the original Wave, which is slightly bigger. Due to the shortage of Super AMOLED displays during production Samsung decided to use a Super Clear LCD display instead of the Super AMOLED used in the original Wave. The Super Clear LCD used provides vibrant and natural detail, but is less visible in direct sunlight and uses much more energy. It comes with Bada 1.2, and is upgradeable up to Bada OS 2.0. Aside from the differences highlighted here, the Wave II is still quite similar to the original Wave.

Just like the predecessor, it was available either in Ebony Gray and Metallic Black colorways, but could also be found in White and Elegant Pink.

Variants

  • SHW-M210S: South Korean variant, released exclusively for SK Telecom. Replaces the cancelled Korean Wave variant (SHW-M120S).

Related phones

  • Samsung Wave: Direct predecessor.
  • Samsung Wave III: Direct successor.
  • Samsung Wave 2 Pro: Namesake for the S5330 (also known as Wave 533). It is unrelated to the Wave II, which is a variant of Wave 525 with a physical QWERTY-keyboard.
