The Samsung GT-S5250, marketed as Samsung Wave 525, is a mid-range Bada OS touchscreen smartphone announced in June 2010 and released on October 26 of the same year.

This is one of the first mid-range smartphones in the Samsung Wave series, and succeeds the Samsung Star in many respects. Just like its predecessor, it has the typical Samsung design from the time, being made out of plastic, but with the addition of a capacitive touchscreen. Unlike the original Wave (GT-S8500), the Wave 525 lacks 3G, has lower camera specs, and a TFT display in comparison to an AMOLED display. WiFi and GPS were still offered on the Wave 525, and was a cheaper option.

It runs Bada 1.1 (upgradable to 1.2) with TouchWiz UI 3.0. It is one of the only Bada phones that didn't receive the Bada 2.0 update, along with the Wave 533.[1]

It was available in black, white, and pink colorways, and later the La'Fleur Pearl White variant (white with flower background patterns).

Variants

Apart from Wave 525, there are many other identical variants, judging by the hardware.

  • GT-S5253: Sold in Asian and Turkish markets.
  • Wave 533 (GT-S5330/S5333): A physical QWERTY-keyboard variant of Wave 525. Also known as Wave 2 Pro in some countries, though not comparable to the Wave II, which is a flagship device.
  • Wave 575 (GT-S5750): 3G variant of Wave 525. Upgradeable to Bada 2.0, but only in Hong Kong[2]. Announced on October 7.
  • Wave 578 (GT-S5780): NFC variant of Wave 575 with a different chipset. It was available only in black. Announced in February 2011 and released in July.
  • Wave 723 (GT-S7230/S7233): Redesigned variant of Wave 525, with addition of more premium materials such as metal and aluminium, and was upgradeable to Bada 2.0. It was available in black and white colorways, as well as a pink La'Fleur edition. Announced in August.
