Qualcomm CMX

From Legacy Portable Computing Wiki

CMX, short for Compact Media eXtension, is a multimedia solution developed by Faith, Inc. in collaboration with Qualcomm, Inc. in 1999.

CMX resides almost entirely in the DSP firmware of the system-on-chip itself, with the only exception being that sometimes the instrument samples can be found in the AMSS portion of a firmware dump.

CMX utilizes the "Compact MIDI" format from Faith, which was adopted into Qualcomm's PMD format.

The Qualcomm MSM3300 was the first Qualcomm system-on-chip to include CMX in its package [1].
