The Nokia N97 (type RM-505) is a high-end touchscreen S60 smartphone announced by Nokia on 2 December 2008 and released in June 2009.

The N97 was the first touch-screen phone in the Nseries lineup and was the flagship of that series for 2009. It features a slide-and-tilt keyboard design, with a full QWERTY keyboard, 5-megapixel camera, 32GB of internal storage, and A-GPS with Nokia Maps. While the N97 was highly anticipated and was praised for photo quality and having a large internal storage for its time, it was criticized for its outdated hardware, poor signal reception, and software issues, mainly due to having only 50 MB available phone memory for the user. Despite its moderate success, with around two million units being sold within three months after its release,[1] and having some problems fixed in later software revisions, it was considered as a "regrettable failure" by Nokia's Executive Vice President of Markets Anssi Vanjoki.[2]

It was available in White and Black colors.

Variants

  • N97 China (RM-506): Chinese variant, without HSPA and WLAN.
  • N97-2 (RM-507): American variant, with different HSPA bands.
