The Nokia 6630 (type RM-1, codenamed Charlie) is a 3G Symbian smartphone announced on 14 June 2004 and released in November of the same year. It was a flagship phone with a 1.3 (effectively 1.23[1]) megapixel camera, and was also Nokia's first WCDMA/EDGE phone to run Series 60.[2]

The 6630 was the first Nokia phone to use the mobileBAE MIDI synthesizer; its soundbank is called Charlie, the codename of the model. This bank also appeared on later flagship models with mono speakers, such as its successors, the Nokia 6680 and Nokia N70.

It is also the first Nokia phone to run on the BB5 platform, and the first Nokia phone with the RM type prefix to start being developed, though other RM-type phones were released before it.

Variants

  • 6630 Music Edition: Features the music player from the Feature Pack 3 and includes a 256 MB memory card with extender, memory card reader and Pop-Port to 3.5 mm adapter. It was available in Rustic Red and Aluminium Grey.
  • 6638 (RM-18): CDMA variant with slightly different design and extendable antenna. It was supposed to be the first CDMA Symbian phone, but was cancelled.
  • Vodafone 702NK: variant for Vodafone Japan (now SoftBank Mobile).
  • FOMA NM850iG (RM-109): variant for NTT DoCoMo with slightly different design.
