MediaTek MAUI
|
MAUI (MediaTek Advanced User Interface) is a proprietary software platform used on MediaTek powered feature phones. It is based on Nucleus RTOS, and has been used by several phone manufacturers over the years. Nokia's Series 30+ platform is a heavily customized version of MAUI.
Some MAUI based phones support one or multiple application runtimes, namely Java ME, MRE/VRE, and/or Mythroad.
Engineering mode
Engineering mode is a special dial-code that enables various test functions. Do note however that this code varies from phone brand. Most of the time the "engineering mode" code is kind of long, and can be found in unencrypted MTK phone firmware as plain text.
High-speed SIM mode
High-speed SIM mode is a feature in the engineering menu in MediaTek feature phones. Its actual intended purpose is unknown, but once selected, it will count down to 3 and turn off, bricking most phones. It won't turn on again, unless formatted with special flashing software.[1][2]
Some people have reported that it also bricked their SIM cards.
Dial codes
Secret dial codes on MAUI phones largely vary by brand, and can be analyzed by searching for strings in a firmware dump. Below is a list of some common codes.
- The system language can be switched by dialing *#0xxx#, where xxx is the language's country code (international dialing number), and pressing Call. For example, *#0044# for English.
- *#0000#: Sets the language to the default (usually English).
- *#63342835#: MediaTek easter egg
- *#6810#: Rumored to permanently disable engineering mode and all dial codes, can only be undone by reflashing.
- *#28144#, *#3366*#, and *#5566183# are codes that often show up in firmware dumps, but are not known to do anything.
